One day itinerary

Bears watching is an amazing experience. We offer you one day for watching bears and, possible, printed foot of wolves and lynxes in the Piatra Craiului National Park or Bucegi Natural Park. In order to minimise the impact on wildlife, groups will be between 3 and 18 people.

09.00 – meet in Zarnesti
09.10 – hiking on the trail of Carpathian large carnivores
11.30 – visit the Curmatura sheepfold
12.00 – lunch at the Curmatura chalet
13.00 – enter the domain of the chamois around Piatra Mica peak
14.30 – hike back to Zarnesti
16.00 – free time (depending on season and hour of sunset)
17.30 – bear watching
22.30 – return to Zarnesti

Includes: specialized wildlife guide and use of bear watching hide. These bears are truly wild and we have a 70 – 75% chance of seeing them at the hides. We cannot guarantee sightings! The price does not include accommodation at guesthouse or lunch at Curmatura chalet.

Essential equipment and clothing needed for bears watching

Besides ordinary travelling clothes you will also need: a small backpack, comfortable walking boots with good ankle support, water bottle, waterproof jacket and warm sweater, sunglasses, sunscreen and sun hat.

Medical and Health Requirements for wildlife watching

To the best of our knowledge the Romanian Government does not currently require you to have any special vaccinations. Please consult your family doctor (G.P.) before your visit to Romania. All our activities imply physical effort, walking long distances at medium and high altitudes and possibly climbing. Please check with your doctor if your health allows you to participate!

You must have travel insurance which must include:

  • Accident and medical treatment
  • Medical repatriation
  • Loss of or theft of baggage, personal belongings, money, credit cards, etc.
  • Cancellation, curtailment or change to programme

You must ensure that your insurance is suitable for adventure activities such as: climbing, abseiling, horse riding, skiing, high altitude hiking, or any other activity as specified in the programme itinerary.
